Cole the chicken man was so excited when we went and picked up our 100 little peepers a couple of weeks ago. This is our first year to raise meat birds. In my dreamin' schemin' brain I came up with the great idea to not just raise 60 meat birds but to add 40 egg layers to raise and sell to help offset the cost. So Cole and I each made an investment and will have chickens to sell later this summer, Lord willing. They are doing great already with only minor casualties.
We also added our spring pigs. Four of these little guys will be raised over the summer on cheese and whey and left over garden goodies. This fall our freezer will be full of pork, as well as the freezer's of a few friends. I like spring on the farm.
