It was one of the best things I have done since February, even if it did freak my poor husband out a little bit for a short amount of time. It wasn't actually that spur of the moment, I have been thinking about it for quite some time now, but that flashing neon light screamed out at me on the way to camp on Friday and by Saturday it was all I could think of.
I got Rob's blessing and talked Traci (who is a tattoo pro) into coming with me (Rae, too). It was an amazing experience. From finally having the gumption to do it, to deciding what to get, right down to the immense pain of it all. I had the kid's names wrapped around my ankle, intermixed with a broken beaded necklace, and a cross and the word "Rejoice" on the top of my foot. Did it hurt? Yeah, a little bit, but not as much as a broken heart. The process of being broken for something beautiful was worth the pain.
Traci and I had so much fun~ we felt like two teenagers sneaking out. It really didn't hurt that bad (well, a few places it did, okay lot's of places), it was just fun to freak the poor nearly-twenty-some-year-old guy out by screaming every once in a while.
It took over an hour, which is a lot of time to just sit and talk and ponder life, and God, and why did I really want to do this, and can you wait to use the bathroom or do you want to go to the bar or the exorcist bathroom (it's a long story, but funny) .....
They asked us to sign their wall when it was all done~ "love you Trent, Mom"
Do I like it? Love it! It is a permanent reminder of God's goodness to me, a reminder to rejoice, a part of Trent with me forever. Although I did wake up and scream the next morning when it was still real (hehehehe~ that was just to freak the poor kids out who couldn't believe their mother got a tattoo, and while she was at Bible camp none-the-less:))).
Good for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast! I'm glad I could share the experience with you. :) I still giggle when I think about it! Can't wait until Labor Day!
ReplyDeleteWow! You really went big for your 1st tattoo! Looks great. I was 50 when I got my first one. I have 2 small ones and I really like them. People only see them in the summer time. The one on the side of my knee they always think is dirt! :) Anyway, good for you. Everybody needs some fun in their life! God Bless!!
ReplyDeleteOUCH!! neat looking though...
ReplyDeleteYou are one BRAVE woman! I wouldn't be within 10 feet of there! What a wonderful memory you will have to share with your sister!
ReplyDeleteLove you ladies!
ReplyDeleteAre you getting one on Labor Day Traci????!!.......
Ardith~ you make me giggle:))) Rob was afraid this would turn into an addicting habit and I had to promise I wouldn't get twenty more tattoos..... It was fun! My Mom approved and even liked it~ we're trying to convince her to get one:))
I could have never understood why people get tattoos until going through the whole process, now I understand why people are covered in them.
Looks like you had a great time with this experience. I don't think it's something I could do, but my grown children and their spouses have some that mean a lot. Your's is a good reminder.
ReplyDeleteI thought we'd make it a new tradition for camp weekends. We can take turns; you on Memorial Weekend, me on Labor Day!
ReplyDeleteMy kids and Jim were both surprised (and I think disappointed) that I didn't get one. Rae keeps saying that she really wants that pink unicorn tattoo. :)
