Our Crazy Farm 2009

As I am preparing for the new year, I compiled a list of our farm projects. Both ongoing, and wish lists. No idea what we'll do come July!

Garden/Orchard:
Large garden-start our own seedlings
Plant trees along roadside
Plant Apricot trees
Plant Blueberry bed, raspberry bed, (?)Blackberry bed
Plant Christmas trees
Transplant lilacs
Continue to improve flower beds, paths behind grainery
Can and freeze lots
Sell pumpkins and squash - corn(?)
Improvements:
Cabin and outhouse, shed and fence
Trails
Cut wood in the spring for 2 winters ahead
Dave plant hayfield/corn/soybeans (?)
Create drainage ditch in north-east field
Reroute driveway and parking area
Picket fence
Steel siding on sheds
Barn project- Raise and level barn, steel siding
Horse Arena/ bleachers
Pond project:
- create overflow drainage/ create bridge
-dock
-warming/storage shed
-level island, gazebo
-landscaping, trees, bushes
Remodel pump house
Window in Grandpa’s shop
House:
-Upstairs bathroom
-Entryway
-Sunroom
-Finish trim work, downstairs bathroom, wood stove issues, kitchen counter tops and cupboards
-Insulate/Finish entry closet and basement stairwell
-Living room floor
Goats:
Continue to build up Nubian Herd
Lime goat stalls
Build outside hay feeder
Stall door
Tack room door
Extend fence for better hay feeding
Summer-Pasture Billy goat on a chain
Build portable shelter for Billy goat
Raise calves off of goats milk
Make goats milk soap
Make goats milk cheese
Freeze goats milk
Dogs:
Consider breeding coon hounds
-Get Ranger’s papers
-Purchase registered female
Cattle:
Raise calves off of goats milk/sell
Make decision to continue to breed beef cattle, or switch to raising bottle babies again
Sell beef, or sell calves as feeders - Pasture concerns
Purchase bull or artificially inseminate
Finish dry lot wooden fence
Decrease feed expenses by being able to grow our own hay, corn, etc.
Pigs:
Raise 3 butcher hogs off of cheese and whey
Shelter concerns
Concrete feeding area
Chickens:
Hatch and sell chicks
Hatch and sell pullets
Increase flock, sell some older hens
Change over to full breed, or continue to breed crosses
Butcher roosters with Bert?? Field raise roosters??
Turkeys/Ducks:
Decide if we are going to raise turkeys again
Build turkey mobile to feed them on pasture
Sell ducklings at farm auction
Horses:
Ride a lot more
Sleep over camping trip
Horse show?

Goals:
Animals to sustain themselves financially
Farm to sustain us with food
Enjoy what we are doing!
Decrease living expenses so Rob can be home more
